Effects of Indeloxazine Hydrochloride on Behaviral Disorders Following Cerebrovascular Disorders

Abstract
The clinical effects of Indeloxazine hydrochloride are reported, which has been known to improve the behavioral disorders following cerebrovascular disorders(CVD). The drug was started at least 4 weeks after the episode of CVD. 20mg of the drug was given or. y 3 times a day(60 mg/day) for 8 weeks to those who had had behavioral problems resulting from CVD (15 cases of cerebral infarction and 15 cases of intracerebral hemorrhage). Responses to the drug were assessed every 4 weeks in respect to 13 problem groups: (I) spontaneity, (II) abnormal behavior, (III) personal relation, (IV) sleep disturbance, (V) intellectual mental function, (VI) language, (VII) emotion, (VIII) hypochondriacal symptoms, (IX) allucination & delusion, (X) insight, (XI) subjective symptoms, (XII) neurological signs, (~ II) daily living activities. After 4 weeks of treatment symptoms belonging to I, III, IV, V, VII, XI, and XIII were found to have improved significantly. And, in addition, those of TI and VIII improved after 8 weeks. Other 4 problem groups(VT, IX, X, & XII) did not show any meaningful improvement. Therefore, the problems that could be categorized as subjective symptoms improved more remarkably than the objective ones. And global improvement in disability scores of the patients were most noticeable in the first 4 weeks. In respec to overall disability scores, 22 of 30 patients (73.3%) showed more than 20% of improvement, when evaluated at 8 weeks. During the trial period mild dizziness and nausea occurred ansiently in 2(6.7%) and 3 cases (10% ), respectively. No hematological and chemical changes were noted with the drug. A more comprehensive and detailed evaluation of the effectiveness of the drug using a longterm, double blind control study should be followed.
